We had over 700 participants at the 1st edition of Fintech Academy last fall. Since then MKB Bank founded MKB Fintechlab to become its gate to the technology world. In March, MKB Fintechlab launched its first incubation program with 6 fintech startups.

Building upon the success of the first program and last year’s academy, we will expand Fintech Academy 2.0 for the CEE region. It is mainly open for startups and developers working on DATA-based projects. Do you want to know more on the future of digital banking, bank-fintech cooperation, API banking and blockchain? Register for Fintech Academy 2.0 on this website!

Our events and the presentation videos will be available for free to those who registered!

Starting in 2018, all the banks in the EU will have to provide open access to their current account databases for third-party- providers due to an EU Directive, called PSD2.
So far companies such as Google, Amazon, Facebook and Apple had developed their own API-based ecosystems, but from now on banks in the EU will also be able to do that. In a few months time the era of open banking, marketplace banking and bank-as- a-service will begin creating great opportunities in the digital space.

The success of the digital banks lay upon how the banks could leverage data in real-time. The future is in the context-based sales of financial services. Utilizing the huge amount of real-time data, banks can provide personalized offers at the right time and at the right place to their customers. Working with startup companies who are using predictive analytics, BIG DATA, machine learning professionally and also utilizing socia data in an alternative way will be a great opportunity to the banks.

More and more banks, insurance and investment companies recognize the opportunities in blockchain, distributed ledger and smart contracts, so they initiate pilot projects. Blockchain-based solutions will likely result in faster and cheaper financial transaction management, back-end processes and user identification. The future role of cryptocurrencies in the inter-bank or clearing market and the relating regulatory needs are also interesting questions.
